Renewable Energy in the UKApril 20, 2015
In these climate conscious times, more and more homeowners are choosing to run their properties in a more energy efficient way. Here at Ebberns we understand that homes are becoming more environmentally focused, which is why we supply state of the art renewable energy devices so you can run a greener home while keeping your energy bills down.
Our dedication to helping homes become more eco-friendly falls in line with the target set out by the government which aims to help the UK generate 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020. While many were initially dubious of this target, recent official figures have shown that the UK are on track to succeeding this goal.
In 2011, the head of the Department for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne, launched the UK Renewable Energy Roadmap, aimed to set out a “comprehensive suite of targeted, practical actions” to achieve this target and monitor its progress.
An update of this roadmap in 2013 suggested that the UK was on track to achieving its target of generating 15% of its energy from renewables by the end of the decade. It also showed that the amount of electricity the country generated from renewables nearly doubled between 2010 to 2013, reflecting just how much renewable energy has taken off in the last few years.
As well as the government’s official target, there are many reasons as to why renewable energy has become so popular in recent years. Solar power has been a major contributor to improving the energy efficiency of many homes, and a reduction in the cost of photovoltaic (PV) cells for solar energy systems has made this option more accessible to different households.
The introduction of the Feed-in tariff (FIT) subsidy in April 2010 provided a financial incentive to encourage people to choose renewable electricity-generating technologies. Those who install such technology could qualify for the UK Government’s Feed-in Tariff scheme which could mean they receive money from their energy supplier; you can be paid for the electricity you generate. Most technologies designed for domestic application qualify for this scheme, including:
- Solar electricity (PV cells)
- Wind turbines
- Micro combined heat and power (CHP)
We are committed to helping homeowners run a functional, energy efficient home, so no matter what type of renewable energy system you need installing or parts for, we can find the ideal solution for your property. As well as supplying PV cells for solar energy systems and sourcing heat pumps for geothermal energy systems, we also offer a complete renewable energy consultation for your home.
During this visit our fully trained energy consultants will take into account every factor which could affect your choice of energy system, including space, light and the timescale in which you hope to reap the rewards of your investment
Over our 30 years in operation, we have established close ties with Gas Safe and OFTEN registered engineers. This means you can apply for government grants designed to cover the costs of your new energy efficient solution, helping you save money as well as the environment.
